Write Anything Wednesday #8

Wednesday is the day I get bossy and tell you to write. It doesn’t matter what you work on. Do some poetry if you’re nothing like me and have the talent for it. Type of a few blog posts drafts to build up a backlog. I need to follow my own advice on that one. Write a new scene or polish up an old one. Make up a new character and write their background story. As always, if today is a bad day for you, pick another and put it on your schedule, then write on that day, every week. Even the living distractions (who am I kidding?) in your life can be taught to leave you alone during your scheduled time. Babies take naps. Spouses can be asked nicely. Pets need to learn to self pacify anyway.

If you already write every day then maybe Wednesday can be set aside for specific projects. For example, today could be used for flash fiction if you are working on a novel the rest of the week. Perhaps it’s a good day to get out of the house and write somewhere new. You could make it your list day, no, not shopping lists. I mean write down any thoughts about stories you want to write but don’t have the time for right now. Even better would be a short synopsis.

For me, I’m going to work on my middle grade story today. I decided to change almost the entire middle, so I have a lot to do. I plan to tell my family to leave me alone and I’ll put a gate up to keep the dogs out of my room. Plot cards are my friends, so I’ll probably spend some time writing those and pinning them on my plot wall. Then rearrange, change, fret, write, etc. for the rest of the day,

If you want a prompt:

  • What would your life have been like if you had been born into a different decade, or century?
  • You open a fortune cookie and the slip of paper says: You will die today.
  • Describe the perfect day while on vacation.

Happy writing!

P.S. What do you think of my new picture for Wednesdays?
