You know the drill, write something. Why? It’s a great day to write and I say why not? Write absolutely anything. Try your hand at flash fiction or write a poem. Make an outline or character sketch. Write a chapter, or as many chapters as you can. Nothing to write about? Try making a list of ideas or free-write. Make Wednesday your weekly no-matter-what writing day. If this isn’t a good day then pick another. The important thing is to simply write.
If you feel stumped grab a timer and do ten minute sprints. The first time you do this might not garner great results but the more you do the more you get used to it and your muse will start to shine.
If you would like a prompt:
- Invent a magic system!
- Write some flash fiction about a writer.
- Write a scene using two characters in your WIP but gender swap, or at least gender role swap.
I was recently asked “Why Wednesday?” The person said they would rather write on Sunday once they’ve had the experience of the weekend to pull from. That’s a great idea. However, if you wait for inspiration you’re not doing yourself any favors. If you want to write on a regular basis then you want to be able to write on command, when you have or make time. Wednesday is a great day for that. Your mind isn’t already on the weekend and you’ve already survived the beginning of the week blahs. I suggest writing in the middle of the week because there is nothing special about it. Think how happy you’ll be with yourself if you come up with something great without waiting for inspiration!
